Britain / EU Brexit

In 2015, British Prime Minister David Cameron fulfilled a Conservative Party General Election manifesto pledge by giving the British people a referendum on whether they wished to remain or leave the European Union (EU). The vote took place after an acrimonious campaign on 23 June 2016 with the result of the poll announced the following day with 51.89 percent of those who voted supported withdrawal and 48.11 percent of those who voted to remain as members of the EU.

The British government notified its intention to leave the EU after Theresa May signed a letter invoking Article 50 on 28 March 2017. Following two years of negotiations with the EU and debates in the British Parliament the country is as divided now as it was before the referendum in 2016.

The postponed EU Withdrawal Agreement vote, or more commonly known as The Meaningful Vote, is due to be held in the House of Commons on 15 January 2019 and facing the prospect of defeat the British government is looking at a possible exit from the EU on 29 March 2019 with no deal and an uncertain future as to its relationship with Europe.

Tennis French Open Grand Slam

The French Open tennis tournament is the world's premier clay court tennis championship event - often referred to as Roland Garros, as it is named after French aviator and fighter pilot Garros. The major event, which is being played in two weeks at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, is the second of four annual Grand Slam tournaments which are the most important tennis events in the world. Due to the red clay surface, which makes play slower than grass or hard courts, the tournament is widely considered to be one of the most physically demanding tennis competitions worldwide, requiring the best tennis from each player to reach fame and glory like previous French Open legends Max Decugis, Suzanne Lenglen and Chris Evert or current holder Rafael Nadal.

The French Open / Roland Garros tennis tournament runs from 20 May to 09 June 2019.
