Indian Ocean Tsunami - 5th Anniversary

On 26 December 2004 a great earthquake occurred off the west coast of northern Sumatra, Indonesia. The tsunami that accompanied this magnitude 9.0 earthquake propagated over the entire Indian Ocean and caused massive and widespread destruction.


Appoximately 300,000 people were killed with victims in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and the Maldives. In all, the worldwide community donated more than 7 billion US Dollars (2004) in humanitarian aid.
