Pakistan Floods 2010

More than 1,500 people across Pakistan have been killed and hundreds of thousands stranded due to flash floods triggered by the ongoing spell of monsoon rains. The worst floods in nearly a century washed away crops, submerged villages and destroyed roads and bridges, leaving thousands of people homeless and stranded.

So far the northwest of the country has been hardest hit, but the torrential waters are now threatening the south as well. On 05 August 2010, Pakistani authorities began evacuating half a million people living along the swollen Indus River in the south.
