Russia Wildfires 2010

On 05 August 2010, the official number of people killed in wildfires rose to 50. Hundreds of people have been injured and thousands have fled the flames that have already destroyed countless homes, harvests worth one billion euros and thousands of hectares of forest. Some 10,000 soldiers are deployed in the fight against the fires along with hundreds of thousands of volunteers and firefighters.

The fires follow the hottest summer in Russia in 130 years, with temperatures hovering around 35 degrees celsius for weeks - and temperatures of around 40 degrees predicted for the days to come.
