Many people were trapped alive under the rubble of an eight-storey building two days after it collapsed near the Bangladeshi capital this week, one of the rescuers said 26 April. At least 275 people were confirmed killed since the building's eight storeys collapsed on 24 April. More than 2,000 people have been recovered from the Rana Plaza building since it collapsed. Optimism was boosted after rescuers freed 54 people alive from the debris overnight, said Jahangir Kabir Nanak, junior minister for local government, rural development and cooperatives, speaking on the Independent Television channel.
