epa’s Georgi Licovski Wins Unicef Photo of the Year 2015 Award
Frankfurt am Main, 17 December 2015
The Jury of the Unicef Photo of the Year Award in Berlin today announced the winning picture for 2015: a photograph depicting children trapped at the Greek/Macedonian border at the height of the refugee crisis in August, 2015. It is a photograph taken by epa’s long-term staff photographer, Georgi Licovski based in Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Georgi Licovski commented: "I am feeling honoured and privileged to have been awarded this prestigious prize", and he continued "My problem was and still is that I couldn’t take pictures of all the children who suffer, I can't present all their tears so someone can see them and help them."
In a company blog post for epa, Georgi had described the circumstances leading up to the scene in more detail.
Georgi Licovski, 51, has been a staff photographer with epa for almost 20 years and is based in Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Today's epa picture service is based both on the broad network of epa's staff photographers all over the world and on the daily production of its member agencies, which are all market leaders in their respective countries. epa photos have been awarded prestigious prizes in Europe, Asia, North America and Africa.
