The boxing grannies is the brain child of former body builder Claude Maphosa aka 'Coach', who started training the grannies four years ago. Many of them come to the training to keep fit and learn how to defend themselves from criminals. The ladies train twice a week for an hour and a half. Some of the grannies arrive at the training using walk sticks to help them walk and amongst the grannies some have diabetes, one has had a stroke and another has survived breast cancer.
