Abir Sultan was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, 1985. He began his career as a professional photographer in 2004 at the Spokesperson’s Filming Unit of the Israeli Army. There he documented several of the most significant recent historical Israeli events such as the disengagement of the Jewish settlements from Gaza, the Second Lebanon War and continuous fighting in Gaza. After three years in the Israeli army, Abir started freelance for Bluepress photo agency and the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth amongst others. In 2009 he started working at the Jerusalem based news photo agency FLASH90 collaborating on a daily basis with Maariv, one of the largest Israeli newspapers. Two years later, in 2011, Abir joined epa as a staff photographer.
