Alaa Badarneh was born in Palestine, in 1971. He fell in love with photography during his childhood while helping his father in the family’s studio. Before Alaa joined epa in March 2003, he worked for BBC, Reuters, as well as for Palestinian daily newspapers and local radio stations.
Alaa has covered the Mideast conflict, general news stories in the West Bank and many other daily life events and features in the Palestinian Territories.
Alaa Badarneh teaches photo-journalism at Birzeit University and received several international and Arab awards in press photography (eg. Arab Journalism Award, Al-Sharqa Photography Award, Qattan Journalism Prize & Tom Hurndall Prize, Arabic-European Photo-Festival, Gold FIAP Medal & Salon Grand Prix for the Best Photos). He is a representative of the Committee of Arab Photographers in the Union of Arab Photographers for Palestine and a jury member for many local and international photography competitions.
