Antonio Bat was born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1964. He started his career as a photographer at Vecernji list newspaper. After graduating from the University of Zagreb (FPZN) with a degree in journalism Antonio started with HINA News Agency as their first photographer and photo editor. He has covered the war in Croatia and Bosnia from 1991 to 1995 and served as a freelance photographer for epa since 1992. From 1995-1996 he had worked as a photographer for Arena Magazine before he joined epa again as staff photographer in 1996.
Antonio has covered the Yugoslav Wars and Kosovo War, Olympic Winter Games and numerous European and world championships, as well as basketball, swimming, athletics, soccer and tennis championships among other sport events. He has also covered Pope John Paul II in many countries as well as major political events and summits.
