Daniel Irungu Mwangi was born in 1991 in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. After finishing his college studies in 2011, he discovered a passion for photography and began shooting protests and riots for Demotix. He worked for the Nation Media Group in Nairobi as a freelance photographer from 2012 to 2013. He then joined european pressphoto agency where he covered the Westgate mall attack, numerous violent riots and protests and Garissa University attack.
Daniel won the Kenya Photography Awards 2016 in the singles news category and was the 1st runner-up in the same category. He was also nominated for the 2016 Joop Swart Masterclass.
