Francis Malasig started working as a photographer for a local Philippine newspaper in 1989.
In the early 1990s he was assigned to accompany a rescue chopper with government officials. On the way back the chopper was hit hard in the mountains by a typhoon and crashed. Malasig survived and his images won the grand prize in the 1994 Freedom Forum Awards.
After several career stations he joined epa in 2007 covering mainly natural disasters, conflicts, and social issues. In 2016 Francis Malasig was appointed Chief Photographer for the Philippines.
