Friedemann Vogel was born in Germany in 1980. He discovered his love for photography early and produced his first photo documentary in 1996/97 when he travelled Europe’s then poorest country Romania. In 2001, after studying photography, Vogel started a traineeship at Bongarts, an agency for sports pictures, and later joined Getty Images who took over Bongarts in 2004.
Friedemann gained broad experience covering local sports events as well as some of the biggest sports events in the world, such as the Olympic Games, Winter Olympics, Soccer World Cups and the world’s most prestigious cycling event, the Tour de France. In 2013 Friedemann and his family moved to Brazil where he had the opportunity to cover the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013, the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In 2017 Friedemann returned to Germany to join the european pressphoto agency (epa) to help build epa’s new coverage from Germany. Apart from his responsibility within epa for the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, he reinforces coverage teams such as at the G20 Summit in Hamburg in 2017 and the 2018 Soccer World Cup in Russia.
